CABEI highlights its contribution to sustainable development at the International Sustainability Summit, the “2024 Taiwan x SDGs x Latin America” Forum and the “2024 SDG Asia” exhibition in Taipei

Taipei, August 10, 2024.- With the purpose of highlighting the role as an engine of positive transformation towards the sustainable development of its partner countries and presenting the contribution and commercial opportunities to the public of the Republic of China (Taiwan), CABEI participated in the International Sustainability Summit. Likewise, in collaboration with the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE), we co-organized the “2024 Taiwan x SDGs x Latin America” forum within the framework of the third edition of 2024 SDG Asia.
During the International Sustainability Summit, held on August 9, the executive president of CABEI, Gisela Sánchez, reaffirmed the institution's commitment to generating opportunities to improve people's quality of life and preserve the planet. This commitment is aligned with the Bank's medium-term strategic vision, which seeks to build a more equitable, sustainable and prosperous future for new generations. Furthermore, she underlined the strong relationship with the Republic of China (Taiwan), a key strategic partner, and emphasized the importance of multilateral cooperation and regional integration to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Next, Steven Chen-Yuan Wong, interim representative officer of CABEI in the Republic of China (Taiwan), participated in the panel titled “The MDB that promotes sustainable development in Central America and is a leading international partner for the region.” In his intervention, he highlighted CABEI's role in sustainable development and its role as a green and social bank, through the financing of projects in education, MSMEs, sustainable agriculture, climate change, infrastructure, women's empowerment, and water supply and sanitation, among others. He also highlighted the direct investment opportunities in the region, inviting interested companies to visit the CABEI stand to discuss possible collaborations.
At the opening of the “2024 Taiwan x SDGs x Latin America” forum, which took place on the morning of August 9, the chair & president of TAISE, Dr. Eugene Chien, expressed his sincere gratitude for the organization of the event. He highlighted CABEI's significant contribution to achieving the SDGs, both in Taiwan and in the region.
During the event, Eduardo González, interim head of the Environmental and Social Sustainability Office of CABEI and specialist in climate change and the environment, participated in the panel titled “Financing sustainable and resilient development: investment opportunities in large global agreements”. During his intervention, he highlighted the Bank's alignment with the SDGs and the Paris Agreement, highlighting CABEI's impacts and contributions to these objectives. In addition, he addressed priority sectors and business opportunities and specific initiatives for the Republic of China (Taiwan).
The Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, Julio Eduardo Orozco Pérez, presented Guatemala's strategies for sustainable development, while other panelists addressed topics such as sustainable tourism, synergistic alliances and opportunities in decarbonization and renewable energy in the region.
Importantly, the 2024 SDG Asia exhibition, held from August 8-10, took place at the Taipei World Trade Center, was the largest event of the year dedicated to the SDGs, attracting more than 33,000 domestic and international attendees. 151 exhibitors participated, including private companies, financial institutions, international and government entities, universities, hospitals and NGOs, among others.
Detailed information on the extensive collaboration and funded projects in various key areas was presented at the CABEI stand. This space facilitated interaction with representatives of various sectors interested in the Bank's initiatives, allowing the exploration of new cooperation opportunities and increasing CABEI's visibility among both Taiwanese and international visitors.
Through these efforts, CABEI reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development in the countries it serves, consolidating cooperation to promote the well-being of communities and guarantee a more prosperous future for the planet.
